Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare - Ready to play

Postby Sarge » Thu Jun 24, 2010 09:49

As announced on our Steamnews, Krankerkiller and I ordered Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare (1) and are starting to play it today.
After reading many reviews and watching a few gameplay videos (Singleplayer & Multiplayer) we decided to buy this game
in order to have an instant-action multiplayer game that is played between our Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 matches.

If you are interested in this game visit the Steamstore page to get more information or just ask us in this forum. ;)

We are looking forward to new players with which we can hunt down bad terrorists! :)

My first impression : good game!
It feels like a modern Tactical Ops - realistic maps, realistic weapons, movie-like action - and my loved MP-5 returns! ;)
It's really fun I can say, though of course I haven't seen everything of this game yet. Perhaps I'll even play the Singleplayer!

However, it would be nice to see more -/EDF/-Members in this game.

Its alright but i really don't understand why you ordered 4 and not 6, cause 6 is just a polished version of 4.

Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare :
-Dedicated servers
-good working match-making
-mappacks are for free on PC

Call of Duty 6 : Modern Warfare 2 :
-No decidacted servers
-bad match-making
-mappacks (3 new maps and 2 maps from CoD MW 1) cost 15 € (!!!)
-due to the mappacks it is more difficult to find a game -> worse match-making

Do I have to say more? ;)

I've been playing both 4 & 6 (aswell as 5 but that's another category, also the publisher etc. are others) on PS3 and yeah... I like the story-mode of 6 much more.
But since we've been discussing about Multiplayer-Parts I have to say, that 6 was quite better than 4. Dunno if it's because it's the PS3 Version, but the System was that the Servers are getting rented from the publisher, was as a result has only perfect Pings, no Cheats, always the ability to play somewhere.

But PC might be different. ^^

indeed with 6 i never had match making trouble, playing with friends is easy.
no cheaters or hacks and a pretty good community (no spammers etc.)

In CoD MW2 only local servers can be opened - there are no dedicated servers, ergo no servers hosted by the Publisher.
This might be working for PS3 and XBox 360 well (I can't say anything about it, I don't own these consoles) but on PC
it totally sucks as you can see by reading the official forums. ;)

I want dedicated servers like the rest of the (PC) community - otherwise your pings suck, you can't play with a group (or clan) and so on.
By the way : if you host a server in CoD MW2 (and therefore you're the admin) you can neither switch the map nor kick/ban anyone.
This sucks, doesn't it?

On PS3, you don't have to kick someone - no Cheaters, Spammers, Hackers, Fakers,...
And I mean that the Publisher provides Servers, which can be rent (e.g. by a Clan), but all the Servers are the Same (except the current Map and Game-Mode). It's a huge progress I think, if you don't argue with that they make money with this.

Only local servers can be opened. There are no dedicated servers because this feature does not exist in the game.
Ergo the publisher cannot start dedicated servers either.

As I said before, I don't know how this game is played on consoles (I don't onw any and I'm not interested in consoles)
but I'm a PC-player and as an admin I'd like to decide who to kick and ban. The past has proven that this is
an important feature. :P
